Alabama SB218, a juvenile capital murder bill sponsored by Senator Cam Ward, failed to pass the Senate this year. This bill proposed that a juvenile convicted of capital murder could be sentenced to either life without the possibility of parole or life without the possibility of parole with ONE opportunity for parole after 40 years.

Sheffield and Lentine, P.C. lobbied against the passage of this bill and believes the Senate’s decision not to enact SB218 into law was the correct one.
